📖 Scripture Reading
John 7:10–24 (Read the Holy Bible)
Paraphrased for devotion:
Jesus quietly went to the festival, where people debated about Him. Midway, He taught in the Temple, declaring His message came from God, not Himself. He exposed their hypocrisy—keeping parts of the Law yet condemning Him for healing on the Sabbath. Jesus reminded them: true judgment isn’t by appearances, but by God’s standard.
✨ Introduction
Have you ever tried to do the right thing but felt misunderstood, criticized, or even judged unfairly? In John 7, Jesus faced the same struggles. He went to the festival quietly, not seeking attention, yet His words and actions sparked debates, division, and even hostility. But instead of backing down, He stood firm—teaching truth with humility and authority. This passage challenges us to reflect on how we live out our faith: with boldness, obedience, and a heart that seeks God’s will above human approval.
👀 Observation
- Jesus went to the festival secretly, showing humility rather than drawing attention to Himself.
- The Jewish leaders searched for Him, while the crowd argued—some called Him good, others a deceiver.
- No one dared to speak openly about Him out of fear of the leaders.
- Midway through the festival, Jesus taught openly, declaring that His teaching came from God.
- He exposed hypocrisy: the leaders defended parts of the Law but condemned Him for healing on the Sabbath.
- Jesus reminded them: “Stop judging by mere appearances but instead judge correctly.”

💡 Reflection / Insights
Jesus modeled humility and obedience. He didn’t seek popularity or human approval—only the Father’s will. This challenges us to:
- Live with an “audience of One,” offering our good deeds to God, not people.
- Obey God fully, because obedience brings blessings.
- Be bold in our witness. Many in the crowd knew Jesus was different yet stayed silent out of fear. Today, we are called not to be ashamed of Him (Mark 8:38, Luke 9:26).
- Judge rightly—looking beyond appearances, measuring everything by God’s standard of truth and mercy.
🙋 Personal Testimony
I realize I must guard my heart against seeking approval from others. Like Jesus, I am called to stay humble, obedient, and faithful—even if it means being misunderstood. There are times I hesitated to share about Jesus because of fear of rejection. But this passage reminds me that silence can sometimes be disobedience. God is asking me to speak truth with courage and humility.

✍️ Life Application
How can we live this out today?
- Practice Humility – Serve without seeking recognition.
- Obey God First – Align your life with His Word, even when unpopular.
- Be Bold in Witness – Share Jesus without fear of rejection.
- Judge Rightly – Don’t judge by appearances; seek God’s truth in every situation.
🕯 Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for teaching us humility, obedience, and boldness. Fill me with Your Spirit so I may speak truth without fear. Let me live with integrity and honor You in all I do. Help me to see with Your eyes and judge rightly, not by appearances. May my life bring You glory. In Your holy name, Amen.
