Understanding Jesus: The Confusion of His Identity

📖 Scripture Reading

Read the complete text from John 7:25–36.

Is Jesus the Messiah?

Paraphrased Summary:

The people in Jerusalem were confused about Jesus. They knew the leaders wanted to kill Him, yet He spoke openly in the temple, and no one stopped Him. Some wondered, “Could He really be the Messiah?” But others doubted because they thought they knew where He came from.

Jesus responded, “You know Me and where I am from. I come from the One who sent Me. You don’t know Him.” His words angered many, but no one could arrest Him because His time had not yet come.

Many believed in Him, saying, “When the Messiah comes, will He perform more miracles than this man?” The Pharisees sent guards to arrest Him. Jesus said, “I will be with you only a little longer. Then I will return to the One who sent Me. You will look for Me, but you won’t find Me; where I am going, you cannot come.”

👀 Observation: The Confusion About Jesus

People wondered if Jesus was truly the one their leaders wanted to kill, yet He freely preached in public. They questioned whether their leaders secretly believed He was the Messiah.

They thought they knew where Jesus came from—Nazareth—but they didn’t understand His divine origin. Jesus revealed that He came from the Father, whom they didn’t truly know.

Many were drawn to Him because of His miracles. Still, some were puzzled when He spoke about leaving and being somewhere they could not go.

➡️ Key Point: People recognized Jesus outwardly but missed His divine identity. They saw His humanity but not His divinity.

💡 Reflection & Insights: Looking Beyond Appearances

Jesus’ authority was not of human origin but divine. His timing, His mission, and His life were all under God’s control. No one could lay a hand on Him until God’s appointed time.

Many missed the truth because they judged based on what they saw. Jesus reminds us in John 7:24“Look beneath the surface so you can judge correctly.”

How do we look beneath the surface?

  • By allowing the Holy Spirit to open our eyes.
  • By reading the Word and letting it shape our thoughts.
  • By obeying His commands and walking in faith daily.

Salvation is time-sensitive—Jesus said He would soon return to the Father. This is a call to respond now, not later. As long as we have breath, we have the opportunity to know, follow, and love Him deeply.

💬 My Testimony: From Curiosity to Conviction

I once heard my uncle share about a book when I was in high school. He is an intelligent and curious man. The book described God as an “alien” who came to visit the earth. The author based it on the book of Ezekiel, suggesting that God used a “spacecraft.”

At first, I was intrigued. Then I wondered—how could the Creator of heaven and earth be an alien to His own creation?

As I grew in faith, I realized the importance of knowing God personally through His Word. It was not through theories or speculations. Later, a pastor challenged me to read the entire Bible. He reminded us that if we truly believe it’s God’s Word, we should desire to know it fully.

I took that challenge—and I’ve read the whole Bible several times since then. Each time, my relationship with God deepened. I no longer just knew about Him; I came to know Him intimately.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, my sister confessed that she had long struggled with that same “alien” story. But when she surrendered her life to Christ, the Holy Spirit opened her eyes, replacing confusion with peace and truth. God’s Word became alive in her heart.

Truly, only Jesus—through the Holy Spirit—can reveal who He really is.

🙏 Prayer

🕯️ Abba Father,
Thank You for revealing Yourself through Jesus Christ, the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15). Help me to always pursue a deeper, more personal relationship with You.
Teach me to look beyond appearances, to listen to the Holy Spirit, and to walk in faith daily.
Keep me within Your will and help me to obey You in all things.
Hold my hand, Lord, as I walk this journey toward righteousness and truth.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

💗 Life Application

  1. Seek to Know, Not Just Believe: Read the Bible daily to know Jesus personally—not just as a historical figure but as your living Savior.
  2. Don’t Judge Superficially: Ask the Holy Spirit for discernment. Look beyond appearances. See God’s hand at work in your life.
  3. Trust God’s Timing: Like Jesus, move confidently knowing that your life is under God’s sovereign control.
  4. Act While There’s Time: If you haven’t yet surrendered your life fully to Jesus, don’t wait. Respond to His invitation today.

🙏Pray this Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me so deeply. Thank You for giving Your life on the cross to save me from my sins. I’m so grateful that through You, I’m forgiven and made right with God. I believe You are my Lord and Savior. I turn away from my sins and choose to follow You with all my heart. Help me to walk in Your ways every day. I can’t wait to spend forever with You. In Your precious name, Jesus, amen.
